Dog Company, 5th Rangers trained in 1943 at Camp Forrest, Tn. During training they learned a new way of combat. These men trained hard to be the best. On 6 June 1944, Dog Company came ashore with the 5th Ranger Battalion on Dog White Beach. They worked their way to the sea wall under the command of 1LT Dawson. Seeing the other Rangers pinned down by murderous machine gun fire, and receiving the order to get off the beach. Ellis (Bangalor Bill) Reed and Woody Dorman moved forward with their Bangalor Torpedo's. Sliding them across the black top and under the heavily spun barbed wire, set and blew their bangalors causing a breach in the wire in which 1LT Dawson was the first Ranger through the breach allowing the 5th Rangers the opening up the bluffs. Knocking out several pill boxes and later moving into the town of Verville Sur Mur setting up a defensive position on the night of D-Day, 6th June 1944.
